For a while, I’ve been thinking about visiting one church in my city per week, to see how different people, denominations, and venues manage to convey the words and intentions of the Christian Holy Bible. And yet, as with many of my brilliant, creative ideas, they tend to stew in the waiting room of my mind before forming fully into feasible, actionable plans.

The first decisions to be made were:

  1. By which medium am I going to convey my findings and
  2. How shall I choose the venues to which I will visit.

I concluded that the most appropriate medium would be blog writings, given the discomfort I may cause if I were to bring a camera into a church. I wish to remain as mindfully aware as possible, and be respectful of the spiritual spaces I’d be entering.

As for how to select the churches…I am statistically minded, so I want to search for a way to randomly select churches within my city (with just a couple of restricting factors).

The restricting factors are still being determined.

Other than the spiritual message/communication, I want to also review and discuss the building’s architecture, the “welcome” and the facilities as architecture and accessibility are important to me, and as the population of New Zealand is aging and presumably also the populations of the congregations.

I intend to also make a number of YouTube videos alongside this blog topic, with a focus on verbal review, interspersed with images of the church I am talking about.

Keep an eye out for future posts in this vein.
