Beltane 2022

Back to regular programming

With Beltane 2021 celebrations having been made smaller due to COVID-19 numbers, this year’s celebration felt overwhelmingly special.

A group of us were able to gather at my friends’ place, to enjoy a bonfire together, complete with giant marshmallows that dwarfed the numerous small children who were in our midst; many of whom were products of the last 3 years of isolation.

Though the fire warmed my heart and soul as I knew it would, it was the children that made the biggest different to my somewhat anxious, low mood that had been hanging around me. Seeing their awe at the fire, and joy at every small thing, made my heart glow with happiness and a renewed passion for life. Sharing in their shock and, for some, fear as the noisier fireworks took off, helped me to remember that though small, they weren’t so different from me.

All these thoughts together reminded me of my purpose in life. And spending that time with some of my closest friends, who genuinely asked after my well-being and are sincerely curious about my life, reminded me that I have value too.

Thank you for reading.
