Today I went to an art exhibition where a friend of mine was displaying her work (amongst many other people’s pieces). Here are some thoughts.

Variety truly is the spice of life. There were so many different styles of paintings at this exhibition and each one of these was impressive in its own way. There were paintings with sharp lines and contrasting colours, others with a mere silhouette of an image, and still others where you might’ve sworn that the image would feel soft if you touched it. Each and every one of these images had a story to tell. I was able to appreciate every one of them in a different way. It was an honour to be able to take a look at projects which people, artists, have clearly poured their hearts into.

Opinion can be very subjective; don’t take all opinions as fact. I overheard a lady at the exhibit saying that she didn’t like artwork with a story attached to it, nor did she like artwork with no story at all. Putting aside the fact that there isn’t much left once those two conditions are fulfilled, I was reminded that while I may have drastically differing opinions to others when it comes to art, my opinion is in no way superior to theirs, it is simply different.

Finally, communities are wonderful things. Every time people get together to share their skills and passion for these skills, they create a wonderful atmosphere of supportiveness and collaboration. I have been seeing much evidence of this in recent weeks, but it was brought to the forefront of my mind at this art exhibition. Family and friends stood by the artists admiring their work, and appreciating their contribution to the world of painting. I truly believe that if we support the passions and talents of others irrespective of the financial gain to be had from them, the world would be a better place.

Happy Tuesday everyone!
